On Monday, May 4, 2020, Larry Thomas Makel, a resident of Selma, California and former resident of Fresno, California passed away at the age of 73. Larry was a loving husband, father of two, grandfather of 4 and great grandfather of 6.
Larry was born on October 2, 1946, in Fresno, California to Theodore and Doris (Hancock) Makel. He was a fun-loving and caring man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and loved to travel to the California coast or most of all to Las Vegas.
At the age of 19, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam war aboard the 7th Fleet, Gearing-Class Destroyer USS Leonard F. Mason as a Petty Officer Second Class. Following his Navy service, Larry returned to the United States and worked in the printing trade until he began work for Challenge Dairy Products, where he retired as a District Manager.
Larry passed away in the embrace of his family and will be forever remembered by his wife, Delia Makel, his sons Greg (April) and John (Rachel), his grandchildren Krizia, Briana, Lauryn and Ryan, and his great grandchildren. He will also be missed by his extended family and his many dear friends. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Theodore and his mother, Doris.
A celebration of life is pending and will be announced at a later date.
