James Michael
Byerley, Jr.
September 6, 1964 – May 29, 2024
James Michael "Mike" Byerley Jr.
1964 - 2024
James Michael "Mike" Byerley Jr. 59, a beloved figure in Reedley California, sadly left our world on May 29, 2024. James, was better known as "Mike" to friends and family, Mike was born September 6, 1964 in Honolulu, Hawaii to James Byerley, Sr. and Jeannie Byerley (who preceded in death).
James Michael Byerley, Sr. while serving in the US Navy, uprooted the family by placing them predominantly in the southern California region. Later he made his way to the Central Valley locating in Reedley in the early 1990's where he met and married his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Joy Garretson.
James leaves behind his wife, Joy (nee. Garretson) and stepdaughters; Shannon (nee Lindsey) (Eli) Wiseman, of Clovis, Nicole (nee Adair) (Michael) Atkinson, of Visalia, grandchildren; Alex "AJ" Rey Garcia of Fresno, Tyra Nicole Adair of San Luis Obispo, and Jeremiah Thomas Atkinson of Visalia. Also, his two brothers and one sister, John, Jerry and Jeannie Byerley.
James was an affable man who enjoyed spending his spare time with his friends and family. Anyone who knew James knew his greatest pride and joy were his three grandchildren. He was their biggest cheerleader in life. They in turn loved and adored him equally.
James had many interests and his greatest were cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, trips to Shaver Lake and Huntington Beach, where he and his wife could be found fishing, hunting, playing Pokémon, or playing any number of other video games with his two grandsons or visiting with his granddaughter as well as making a weekend trip to the Pismo Beach and the surrounding area.
James attended weekly and faithfully to the "Meat and Fire" men's group meetings at Church of the Redeemer in Selma, California where he also assisted with the sound system for Sunday services. The Holy Cross Church was a second church where James made wonderful connections and friendships, as well assisted with the sound system and played drums with the Worship Band.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, June 22 at 10 AM
to be held at Church of the Redeemer in Selma, California.
Our heartfelt thinks to the staff at Hinds Hospice Home of Fresno, Father Dave of the Holy Cross, Pastor Randy Moon of Church of the Redeemer and longtime family friend Kathy Schwamb for their kindness, compassion and guidance during this difficult time.
