Guillermo Lopez
Jr
November 19, 1965 – August 13, 2024
Guillermo Lopez Jr., 58, of Fresno, CA, passed away on August 13, 2024, surrounded by family & friends. He was born in Ventura, CA, in November of 1965, to Guillermo and Carmen Lopez. He grew up in Fresno, along with his 6 sisters and 2 brothers. His childhood was an idyllic time in his life, which he recalled fondly. He attended Fresno High School (class of 1983), where he developed an appreciation for learning. He then attended Fresno City College in Fresno, CA, where he majored in political science. During this time, he worked as a student aid with the Department of Immigration and Naturalization Service. Guillermo then transferred to the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he continued his studies. He met some lifelong friends, including the love of his life, Helen Betancourt (Lopez).
He worked as an Immigration Services Officer II at the agency for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for 30 years. He was passionate about helping others, so his job did not seem like work to him. He truly loved what he did for many years. His fellow coworkers and colleagues describe him as fierce, friendly, and always willing to lend a helping hand and offer advice to those who needed it.
While he enjoyed his work, he looked forward to vacations with his family. He was known as the itinerary planner for every trip, due to his organizational skills and knowledge of various locations. He often mentioned the huge world that's out there and his desire to explore it with the ones he loved the most. A few of the amazing trips he planned include Hawaii, New York, Alaska, Washington D.C., and the latest, Italy. When he wasn't planning family trips, he was delighted in playing video games, such as Halo and Call of Duty, listening to music, reading, and
watching movies.
He was a hands-on, devoted husband, father, and soon-to-be grandfather, excited for his first granddaughter, Galilea's arrival. He created a nickname for everyone. His children were affectionately known as "Mr. Man" and "Banana" or "Kiddo". He looked forward to the times he got to spend with wife and kids and instilled in them a love for movies, music, and other popular culture. He was exceptionally intelligent and always kept up-to-date with the latest news. Even in his last few days, he was well-informed on politics and loved to have discussions on what was
happening in the world around him.
Guillermo Jr. is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Helen Lopez, as well as his children, Guillermo Michael Lopez III and Brianna Catherine Moreno, his father Guillermo Lopez Sr., and sisters Annie, Denise, Becky, Loretta and Betty.
Guillermo Jr. was preceded in death by his mother Carmen, sister Debbie, and his two brothers, Alfred and David. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life consisting of a service and lunch, which will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on October 4, 2024 from 9:30 A.M. to 12:45 P.M.
